Lacuum Privacy Policy
Effective: September 1, 2026
LACUUM, INC. ("Lacuum," "we," "us," or "our") builds autonomous surface vessels for aquatic vegetation and debris management. We would rather tell you plainly what we collect than leave you to work it out, so this Policy explains what information we collect through lacuum.ai, our reservation checkout, and our email communications, how we use it, and the choices available to you.
This Policy does not cover information collected by a Lacuum system in operation. Operational data raises different questions, and we will publish a separate product privacy notice covering telemetry, sensor, and operational data before delivering any system.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information you provide. When you place a reservation, we collect your name, email address, billing address, and order details. Payment is processed by our checkout provider, and we never receive or store your full card number. When you contact us through the website, join a waitlist, request a demonstration, or ask about availability, we collect your name, email address, your message, and anything you choose to tell us about your organization or the water bodies you manage. If you ask us to assess whether a Lacuum system suits your site, we may collect information about the water bodies you manage, including location, size, access, depth, vegetation, existing management practices, and photographs or maps you send us. We do not currently collect site information at checkout. If you send us photographs, please avoid including images of identifiable people. We also retain emails you send us and our replies.
1.2 Information collected automatically. When you visit our website we collect technical and usage information, including your IP address, browser type and version, device information, referring page, the pages and content you view, and the dates and times of your visits. We use this information for security, abuse prevention, diagnostics, and to understand and improve how our website performs.
1.3 Information we do not collect. We do not purchase personal information from data brokers and we do not build profiles from outside sources. We do not seek government identification numbers, financial account numbers, health information, precise geolocation, or biometric data, and we ask that you not send them to us.
2. How We Use Information
We use the information described above to process and administer your reservation, including refunds, cancellations, and any delay notices we are required to provide; to respond to inquiries and provide support; to assess whether a Lacuum system suits your intended operating environment; to prepare purchase documents and complete a sale; to operate, secure, and improve our website and our communications, and to measure and analyze how they are used and how our marketing performs; to send marketing and product announcements to people who have asked to receive them; and to meet our legal, tax, and accounting obligations or to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing does not stop transactional messages about an active reservation, which form part of the reservation itself.
We use automated tools to sort, categorize, and route messages sent to us, and we may use them to assist in assessing site suitability. A person reviews any decision that materially affects you, including whether to accept or decline a reservation. We do not use automated processing to make decisions about you that produce legal effects without human involvement.
3. Cookies and Similar Technologies
We use only those cookies and similar technologies that are necessary for our website and checkout to function, including for security and fraud prevention.
Google reCAPTCHA operates on our contact form. Google receives device, browser, and IP information and sets cookies in order to distinguish human submissions from automated ones. A small number of our news pages contain embedded LinkedIn posts, and LinkedIn may set cookies and learn that a visitor viewed those pages. Each of these services is governed by that company's own privacy policy.
Checkout is operated by Shopify on its own systems. Shopify sets cookies there for security, fraud prevention, and its own order and session analytics, and presents its own cookie notice and consent controls. Shopify's use of that information is governed by its privacy policy.
We do not use cookies or similar technologies for advertising, and we do not permit advertising networks to collect information about you through our website.
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Doing so may prevent our contact form from working, in which case you can reach us by email at [email protected].
4. Service Providers and Disclosures
We share personal information with the service providers listed below, who handle it on our behalf under contract and only as needed for the purposes shown.
| Provider | Information handled | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Vercel Inc. (United States) | Server logs, IP address, browser type, timestamps | Website hosting |
| Shopify Inc. (Canada) | Name, email, billing address, payment details, order records | Checkout, payment processing, fraud screening, and customer records. Shopify engages its own sub-processors under its agreement with us. |
| Resend Inc. (United States) | Name, email, message contents | Delivery of contact form submissions |
| Google LLC (United States) | Device and browser information, IP address | reCAPTCHA spam prevention |
We may also disclose personal information to our attorneys, accountants, and auditors under obligations of confidentiality; where required by law, subpoena, or court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Lacuum, our customers, or others; and in connection with a financing, merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, including disclosure of reservation records to prospective investors and acquirers during diligence under obligations of confidentiality.
5. Selling and Sharing
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for targeted or cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not disclose reservation or contact information to advertisers or data brokers.
We honor Global Privacy Control and similar browser opt-out signals. You may also direct us at any time, by emailing [email protected], not to sell or share your personal information, and we will record your election.
6. Your Rights
You may ask us to give you access to the personal information we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, or to provide a portable copy, and you may unsubscribe from marketing at any time.
To make a request, email [email protected]. We will respond within the period required by applicable law and otherwise within a reasonable time. We may need to verify your identity, usually by confirming that you control the email address associated with your records. We may retain information we are required to keep for tax, accounting, or legal reasons. We will not treat you differently for exercising any of these rights. You may use an authorized agent to submit a request, and we may ask for proof of authorization. If we deny a request and you disagree, reply to our response and we will review the matter.
7. Retention
We retain reservation records for the life of the reservation and for seven years afterward, for tax and accounting purposes, including in the case of cancelled and refunded reservations. Correspondence and form submissions are retained for up to three years. Marketing and waitlist contacts are retained until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your information. Server logs are retained for a short rolling window determined by our hosting provider. We delete or de-identify information once we no longer have a business or legal reason to keep it.
8. Security
We limit access to personal information to those who need it, serve our site over encrypted connections, and keep payment card data off our systems entirely by using an external checkout provider. We select service providers that maintain recognized security practices. No system is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If you believe your interaction with us is no longer secure, please contact us at [email protected].
9. Where We Operate
We are based in the United States and offer reservations only to customers located in the United States. Shopify is based in Canada, so information you provide at checkout is processed outside the United States. Our website is accessible from other countries, but we do not target our services to, or offer reservations to, residents of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or other jurisdictions outside the United States. If you access our site from outside the United States, your information will be processed in the United States and Canada, where privacy laws may differ from those in your location.
10. Children
Our website and products are directed to businesses, organizations, and government entities, and not to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at [email protected] and we will delete it.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time and will revise the effective date shown above. Where a change is material, we will post notice on our website and, where we hold your email address and the change affects you, notify you by email.
